MIXED REACTIONS - Liverpool Eye £80m Villa Star Morgan Rogers as Elliott Nears Exit

Liverpool are preparing a late move for Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers, with club insiders suggesting he could be the next major addition to Arne Slot’s squad if Harvey Elliott completes his proposed transfer to RB Leipzig.

The 23-year-old England international, valued at around £80m, has enjoyed a rapid rise since leaving Manchester City in 2023. Journalist Jacob Tanswell once described him as “a machine”, and his performances last season—eight goals and 11 assists in 54 appearances—have attracted attention across Europe.

Liverpool’s transfer activity has already been eye-catching, with Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike arriving this summer. But with Darwin Núñez and Luis Díaz both leaving and Elliott expected to follow, Slot is eager to add more creativity to his attacking options.

Rogers’ blend of athleticism and technical skill could make him a strategic fit in Slot’s system. While Liverpool are still pursuing Newcastle striker Alexander Isak in a deal that may exceed £130m, Rogers represents a more affordable, long-term option.

Statistics show the Aston Villa midfielder outperforms Isak in several creative metrics. Last season, Rogers averaged 3.29 progressive carries and 3.55 progressive passes per 90 minutes, compared to Isak’s 2.71 and 2.88. His 3.04 shot-creating actions per 90 also narrowly edged the Swede’s 3.01.

Tottenham Hotspur are also monitoring the player, but Villa’s need to balance their books could strengthen Liverpool’s hand.

Whether Rogers moves to Anfield could ultimately hinge on Elliott’s departure. Leipzig are pushing to close a deal worth £45–50m, which would free up funds for Liverpool to press ahead.

For Slot, who values flexibility and link play across his forward line, Rogers may be the more strategic investment—an emerging Premier League talent capable of shaping Liverpool’s next era.
