The United Igbo Elders Council (UNIEC) has called on the Nigerian government to unconditionally release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and other political prisoners. In a statement issued by Prof. Obasi Igwe, Director of Media and Publicity, and Alpha Justice, Coordinator-General, the group urged an end to unlawful arrests, detentions, and extrajudicial killings across the country, particularly in Eastern Nigeria.
UNIEC also advocated for the opening of Eastern ports to spur economic growth and reiterated the need for restructuring, regionalism, and referendums to ensure peace and stability in Nigeria.
