NFF Appoints Foreign Coach for Super Eagles: Finidi George Demoted

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has made a significant decision to appoint a foreign Technical Adviser to lead the Super Eagles for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers and the remaining 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. This move comes in the wake of the Super Eagles' underwhelming performance in the World Cup qualification series, prompting the sports minister to demand a restructuring of the team's technical crew.

As a result of this decision, Finidi George, who currently heads the technical crew of the Super Eagles, will revert to his former position as assistant coach of the national team. The NFF also announced plans to strengthen the Technical Department and restructure the Technical and Development Sub-Committee.

The Super Eagles' recent performances have left them in a challenging position in Group C, with only three points from four matches. The appointment of a foreign coach marks a significant shift in the team's coaching strategy and sets the stage for a new chapter in Nigerian football.

The Super Eagles will soon learn their opponents for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with the draw scheduled to take place on July 4 in Johannesburg, South Africa. This event will set the stage for an intense battle among 48 countries vying for 24 tickets to the finals of Africa's biggest football showpiece, to be held in Morocco in 2025.

The decision to appoint a foreign coach for the Super Eagles reflects the NFF's commitment to revitalizing the team and enhancing its performance on the international stage. This move is poised to bring about a significant transformation in the team's coaching structure and strategic direction.
