Biafra Agitation Beyond Nnamdi Kanu and Simon Ekpa, Says Lawyer

According to activist lawyer Madubuachi Idam, the agitation for Biafra goes beyond Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and Simon Ekpa, the self-acclaimed Biafra Prime Minister. Idam stated that the desire for a sovereign state of Biafra is a spirit that resonates within every Igbo person. He further mentioned that many individuals from the Southeast are not comfortable with the style of agitation employed by Kanu and Ekpa.

Idam emphasized that the agitation for Biafra cannot be attributed solely to Kanu and Ekpa, as it is a sentiment deeply ingrained in the Igbo people. He pointed out that even during Kanu's detention, the agitation did not cease, indicating that it extends beyond the actions of these two individuals. Idam acknowledged that while some people have reservations about their styles of agitation, they still believe in the necessity of the emancipation of the Biafran people through peaceful means.

The lawyer also highlighted the issue of marginalization as a driving force behind the Biafra agitation. He called on the Nigerian government to ensure an inclusive government that addresses the yearnings of the marginalized Southeast region. Idam encouraged the government to engage in negotiation and mediation to resolve the ongoing trial and detention of Kanu, stressing the importance of peaceful resolution.
