Traders Disappointed as Governor Bago Shuts Down Niger Market Amid Safety Concerns

Governor Umaru Bago's decision to close the roadside market in Madalla, along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, has sparked mixed reactions among traders in Niger. While some express dismay over the sudden closure,
others welcome the move in light of frequent accidents along the road.

Solomon Eze, a trader, criticized the abrupt notice given by the government, stating that it led to chaos as police officers chased away marketers. He emphasized the need for better communication and planning in such decisions.

Mama Amina, another trader, voiced concerns about the relocation of the market to an inadequate and undeveloped area. She urged the government to consider building a modern market in the vicinity to accommodate the growing population and ensure a conducive trading environment.

However, Maijidda Nuhu, a foodstuff trader, welcomed Governor Bago's decision, citing overcrowding and safety hazards in the old market. She recounted personal tragedies and accidents that occurred in the past, expressing relief at the prospect of a safer trading environment.

Nuhu urged the state government to prioritize the development of the new market location, emphasizing the importance of creating a standard and conducive space for traders.
