The Police Command in Benue State has confirmed the kidnap of two female students of the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi. The unknown gunmen attacked and took the victims along North Bank/Uniagric Road at about 11 pm on Saturday, May 25.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sewuese Anene, confirmed the incident to NAN in Makurdi. According to her,
the unknown gunmen blocked the road, attacked, and took the victims away before the security operatives could arrive at the incident scene.
Anene said, "It was in the night when some armed men came out, attacked, and took them away before the arrival of the Police." She added that the attackers took the car and all the occupants away.
The family and the university have been notified, and an investigation into the matter is ongoing. NAN investigation revealed that one of the students was in the department of Biology Education, while details of the other one were not yet available.
The incident is the latest in a series of kidnappings and attacks in the state, highlighting the need for increased security measures to protect citizens, especially students.
