Worshipper Gun down During Eid Prayers in Zamfara State"

In Zamfara State, a tragic incident unfolded during Eid prayers when a worshipper was inadvertently shot by a security operative who was reportedly in pursuit of hoodlums. The event sparked immediate tension and outrage among the gathered crowd. In a surge of collective grief and anger, local residents expressed their dismay by setting ablaze a vehicle belonging to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the agency to which the operative belonged.

Confirming the incident, the Nigerian Police in Zamfara State, through its spokesperson ASP Yazid Abubakar, stated that two NSCDC personnel involved in the tragic event had been apprehended. Abubakar emphasized that a thorough investigation was underway to determine the circumstances leading to the shooting.

Contradicting the accusation, spokesperson Ikor Oche of the NSCDC in Zamfara denied the allegation that their personnel were responsible for the fatal shooting. Oche clarified that the NSCDC officers were stationed at their designated post, observing the movements of Muslim faithfuls attending the Eid prayers when they heard the gunshot. According to Oche, the NSCDC operatives rushed to the scene upon hearing the sound and found a woman injured by gunfire. He further explained that due to being in close proximity to the incident, the NSCDC personnel became targets of a hostile mob, prompting them to flee for their safety, abandoning their vehicle in the process. Oche lamented that their vehicle was subsequently set ablaze by the enraged mob, resulting in injuries to approximately seven NSCDC members. He reiterated that the NSCDC's state command had initiated its own investigation to uncover the underlying causes of the tragic incident.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of this unfortunate event, authorities are faced with the challenging task of ensuring justice is served and restoring calm to the region amidst heightened tensions.
