Tension as Cultists Kill Rival in Front of Daughter, Abandon Getaway Car in Auchi


A wave of tension engulfed Auchi, Edo State, on Tuesday as members of rival cult groups engaged in a violent clash, culminating in the tragic killing of an alleged Eiye member in the presence of his own daughter. Reports circulating on social media platforms detailed the harrowing incident, shedding light on the brazen confrontation that unfolded in broad daylight.


According to accounts shared by NaijaConfra, a social-media-based platform dedicated to combating cult-related violence, the perpetrators, believed to be members of the Aye Confraternity, descended upon the scene in a Lexus car, wielding deadly weapons. The violence, described as a retaliatory strike, was purportedly in response to the earlier killing of an Aye member identified as Emma, who fell victim to an attack on Monday.


"Naija Confra can now confirm that the Aye member named Emma, eliminated in Auchi on Monday, whose assailants were initially unknown, was indeed carried out by members of Eiye, as the events of yesterday was a retaliation for that attack," the platform revealed in a statement.


Despite the presence of the victim's daughter, the assailants launched their assault with ruthless efficiency, leaving behind their vehicle and weapons in haste as they fled the scene. Vigilante groups in the area reportedly gave chase, prompting the assailants to make a swift escape.


The incident, which unfolded behind Farnet in Auchi, was captured in chilling videos circulating online. One clip depicted the lifeless body of the deceased sprawled on the ground, a stark reminder of the brutality that transpired. Another video showcased the abandoned vehicle purportedly used by the assailants, serving as a grim testament to the chaos that ensued.


As the community grapples with the aftermath of the violent clash, the Edo State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. When contacted for comment, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, indicated that he was not aware of the incident, promising to provide further information upon confirmation.


The tragic events in Auchi underscore the pervasive threat of cult-related violence plaguing communities across Nigeria, highlighting the urgent need for concerted efforts to address the root causes and ensure the safety and security of all residents.
