"Nigerian Soldiers Ambushed: Lieutenant Martyred, Four Heroes Injured in Borno Terror Attack"

 


On April 5, the Defence Headquarters confirmed a tragic encounter in Borno State where a lieutenant of the Nigerian Army was killed and four other military personnel were injured in a terrorist ambush. The ambush occurred during a routine operation along Road Buratai – Buni Gari, leading to a fierce gun battle between the troops of Operation Hadin Kai and the insurgents.


The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Buba Edward, disclosed that six terrorists were also neutralized during the confrontation. The wounded soldiers are currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital.


Following the engagement, troops successfully recovered five AK-47 rifles and 103 rounds of the 7.62mm special ammunition from the terrorists' possession. Despite the setback, the military remains determined, with ongoing efforts to track down and apprehend the remaining insurgents who fled the scene.


This unfortunate incident adds to the recent losses suffered by the Nigerian military, including the deaths of 17 personnel during a peacekeeping mission in Delta State. Such attacks underscore the persistent threat posed by insurgent groups in various regions of the country, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in ensuring the safety and security of citizens.
