Lagos Police Apprehend Driver, Seize Weapons in Early Morning Operation

In an early morning operation conducted by officers from the Maroko Division of the Lagos State Police Command, a driver named Azeez Babatunde was arrested, and a cache of weapons was recovered from his minibus. The revelation was made public by the command's Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to the statement, the apprehension occurred around 5 am when anti-crime patrol officers noticed a minibus performing a sudden u-turn upon spotting them on Hakeem Dickson Street. Suspecting suspicious behavior, the officers swiftly initiated pursuit.

During the chase, six individuals disembarked from the minibus and fled in different directions, leaving only the driver, Azeez Babatunde, behind. The vigilant officers managed to apprehend Babatunde and subsequently conducted a search of the vehicle.

To their alarm, the search yielded alarming discoveries, as officers uncovered two locally-made pistols, two unexpended cartridges, and a knife concealed within the minibus. These findings raised serious concerns about the potential criminal activities Babatunde and his accomplices may have been planning.

In response to the alarming situation, an investigation has been launched to unravel the full extent of the driver's involvement in illicit activities and to determine the source and intended use of the seized weapons. Law enforcement authorities remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of residents in Lagos State and will spare no effort in apprehending individuals involved in criminal enterprises.

The apprehension of Babatunde and the seizure of weapons underscore the crucial role of proactive policing in preventing crime and maintaining law and order in the community. As investigations proceed, the public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.
