"Just in: 28 Abducted Children in Katsina Rescued from Bandits' Clutches"


 The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the safe release of 28 children who were abducted from Kasai Village in the Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State. The incident occurred on Monday, April 1, 2024, when suspected bandits launched a fresh attack in the area.


Initial reports had indicated that 30 children were kidnapped during the raid, but the police later clarified that the actual number was 28. The abduction took place in the early hours of Monday, as the children ventured into the outskirts of their village in search of firewood for cooking.


Batsari Local Government Area is one of several areas in Katsina State where banditry and other criminal activities have been rampant in recent times. According to residents, the assailants intercepted the children while they were gathering firewood and forcefully took them away.


Confirming the release of the abducted children, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, the spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command, stated that the victims had been reunited with their families after undergoing medical check-ups. He revealed that the children were rescued following a coordinated effort by the police, who were deployed to the scene promptly upon receiving the report of the abduction.


Providing further details, Sadiq recounted, "On April 1, 2024, around 10:30 am, some children, about 28 of them went to the outskirts of their village - Kasai in Batsari LGA to fetch firewood from the forest and they were accosted and kidnapped by the bandits. Upon the receipt of the report, the commissioner of police deployed operatives to the scene to rescue the victims of the kidnap incident."


He expressed gratitude that the children were safely recovered and emphasized the commitment of the police to apprehending the perpetrators. While efforts to track down the bandits are ongoing, security measures have been intensified in the affected areas and neighboring communities to prevent further incidents.


The release of the abducted children has brought relief to their families and the community at large, amidst ongoing concerns over security challenges in the region. Residents are hopeful that such incidents will be swiftly addressed to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.
