"Fresh Strikes: Gunmen Claim Lives, Including University Student, in Plateau Night Raid"

Gunmen unleashed terror on Butura community in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State on Thursday night, resulting in the tragic loss of three lives, including that of a Bokkos University student. The assailants, whose identities remain unknown, launched the attack around 9pm, firing shots indiscriminately and causing chaos and fear among the residents.

George Lazarus, a 200-level student of Computer Science at Bokkos University, was among those tragically killed in the attack, according to a fellow student who spoke to our correspondent. The violence prompted students to stage a protest, but their efforts were met with dispersal by personnel from Operation Safe Haven, tasked with maintaining peace in the area.

This latest incident adds to the rising insecurity plaguing Plateau State, exacerbating the already tense situation in the region. Just days prior, on Sunday, similar attacks occurred in neighboring communities within Mangu and Bokkos LGAs, resulting in the loss of three lives. The recurrence of such violence underscores the urgent need for effective measures to curb insecurity and protect the lives and property of residents in Plateau State.

The Nigerian Army, responsible for maintaining security in the area, has yet to provide official confirmation or details regarding the attack. Major Samson Zhakom, spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, stated that he was not aware of the incident and would verify the situation before providing any official statements. As of the time of filing this report, no further updates have been received.

The tragic loss of lives in Butura highlights the ongoing challenges faced by communities in Plateau State and the imperative for swift and decisive action to address the root causes of insecurity in the region. The perpetrators of such heinous acts must be brought to justice, and concerted efforts must be made to restore peace and stability to the affected areas.
