FCT Police Launches Probe Amidst Factional NANS Clash, Promising Resolute Action for Peace"

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has launched an investigation into the recent clashes between factional leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in the territory. The clashes, which involved attacks and counterattacks, have sparked concerns about the maintenance of peace and order.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the command is taking proactive measures to prevent any disruption of the peace enjoyed by residents of the territory. Adeh confirmed the initiation of the investigation in response to inquiries about the viral videos depicting violent incidents between rival factions of NANS.

In one such video circulating on social media platforms, armed individuals were seen assaulting a young man and damaging a bus bearing the images of a factional NANS leader and former presidential candidate of the association, Chibuzor Obi, at Zone 8, Abuja.

The FCT Police Command's prompt action underscores its commitment to maintaining law and order amidst the escalating tensions. Adeh assured the public that further developments regarding the investigation will be communicated in due course.

Efforts to reach both Lucky Emenike, the substantive NANS president, and Chinazor Obi, the factional president, for comments were unsuccessful. Additionally, inquiries made to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, yielded no response.

The recent clashes are not the first instance of violence involving NANS factions in the capital city. In December 2023, a similar incident occurred when one faction attacked injured members of another faction who were receiving treatment at the National Hospital, Abuja. The intervention of law enforcement officers was necessary to restore calm and prevent further escalation of the violence.

As the investigation into the recent clashes unfolds, residents of the Federal Capital Territory remain hopeful for a swift resolution and a return to peace and tranquility in the region.
