Breaking: Police Detain Yahaya Bello’s ADC and Security Details Amidst EFCC Pursuit: A Political Whirlwind Unfolds

The Nigeria Police Force has detained a female police officer who served as the aide-de-camp (ADC) to former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, along with other police officers attached to him. The detention, which occurred at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja, followed an order by the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, for their immediate withdrawal from Bello's security detail.

The officers are suspected of aiding and abetting Bello's escape from operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who attempted to arrest him at his Abuja residence. The ADC and other officers were arrested based on this suspicion.

The order for the withdrawal of police officers attached to Bello was issued by the Inspector General of Police and was acknowledged through a police wireless message. This move came amidst the EFCC's attempt to apprehend Bello, who has been accused of money laundering.

Bello, who failed to appear before the Federal High Court in Abuja for his arraignment by the EFCC, was declared wanted by the anti-graft agency for allegedly laundering over N80 billion. His evasion of arrest prompted the EFCC to place him on a watchlist.

Despite being appointed to head the primary election committee for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Ondo State, Bello's absence from the oath-taking ceremony raised concerns about his participation in the exercise. Some sources suggested that security concerns related to the EFCC's pursuit of Bello may prevent his attendance.

Meanwhile, a former National Vice Chairman of the APC, Salihu Usman, has called for Bello's suspension by the party leadership, citing allegations of shielding his predecessor from the EFCC's scrutiny as an impeachable offense.

The situation underscores the complex interplay between politics, law enforcement, and governance in Nigeria, with implications for accountability, due process, and the rule of law.
