Three days after the military authorities withdrew soldiers from Allawa Community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, bandits have launched a daring raid, exacerbating the already precarious security situation in the region.
Residents of the affected community, including Mallam Yahuza Allawa, recounted the harrowing experience of waking up to find bandits plundering their homes, stealing foodstuffs, domestic animals, and other valuables. The withdrawal of soldiers earlier in the week left the community vulnerable to such attacks, forcing many residents to flee to neighboring areas for safety.
The situation is particularly dire at Central Primary School, Erena, where dozens of displaced residents have sought refuge. However, overcrowding and insufficient resources have exacerbated the plight of those seeking shelter, with hunger and lack of space compounding their challenges.
According to Mallam Yahuza Allawa, the bandits arrived with trucks, which they used to cart away the stolen goods. The affected residents are now appealing to both federal and state governments for immediate intervention to address the security crisis and provide assistance to those displaced by the raid.
This latest incident underscores the urgent need for comprehensive security measures to protect vulnerable communities in Niger State and prevent further attacks by bandits.
