"Chaos on Oyo Expressway: Police Arrest Five Suspects for Burning Patrol Van"

The Oyo State Police Command, on Saturday, apprehended five suspects involved in the burning of a police patrol van and vandalizing Elete Outstation on the new Oyo-Ogbomoso Expressway in the Atiba Local Government Area of the state.

The incident occurred when the suspects, caught in a traffic gridlock on the expressway, vented their frustration on the police for what they perceived as their failure to manage the situation.

According to a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, issued in Ibadan, the state capital, the suspects, in a fit of anger, charged towards the nearby Elete Out-Station and set ablaze the patrol van that had recently been refurbished. Additionally, they vandalized various parts of the building.

The preliminary investigation conducted by the police revealed that after being held up in the gridlock for a while, the suspects mobilized in numbers and attacked the out-station. Fortunately, the timely response and resistance from police personnel stationed nearby, including those from the Area Command, prevented the situation from escalating further.

The statement further indicated that no weapons were taken, and no lives were lost during the incident. However, the police managed to arrest five male suspects at the scene and confiscated two unregistered trucks believed to be connected to the crime.

Subsequently, the case has been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku for further investigation. The police aim to uncover any underlying motives behind the suspects' actions beyond the alleged trigger of the traffic gridlock.

The arrest and ongoing investigation highlight the commitment of the Oyo State Police Command to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of residents in the state.
