"SWAN Lagos and WCFL Unite to Kick Off Exciting Football League, Promoting Unity and Community Development"


In a bid to foster positive change and community development through sports, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Lagos State chapter, and the White Collar Football League (WCFL) have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU).


The signing ceremony, held at the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government secretariat in Ajegunle, Lagos, was graced by prominent figures including Dave Jones, President of WCFL, Debo Oshundun, Chairman of Lagos SWAN, and Oba Moroof Amodu-Tijani Oluwa, the Olu of Iwa and Apapa Kingdom.


The core objective of the MoU is to utilize sports as a vehicle for promoting sportsmanship, unity, and community development. As part of the agreement, WCFL plans to launch a football league featuring 32 teams comprising both male and female players. The matches will be hosted at the New Maracana Stadium in Ajegunle, Lagos, and are scheduled to commence in the last quarter of the year.


Dave Jones, speaking on behalf of WCFL, emphasized that the partnership signifies a joint commitment to leverage the transformative power of sports to effect positive change in society. He outlined the mission of WCFL, which includes promoting sportsmanship, fostering unity among stakeholders, championing health and wellness initiatives, and giving back to the community through fundraising and strategic partnerships.


Debo Oshundun, Chairman of Lagos SWAN, underscored the immense potential of sports as a catalyst for sustainable development and economic growth. He reiterated SWAN's dedication to driving positive societal changes through collaboration with WCFL and other stakeholders in the sports industry.


Fatai Ayoola, Chairman of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, lauded the partnership between SWAN Lagos and WCFL, emphasizing its significance in nurturing sports talents and fostering community development.


Oba Amodu-Tijani, the Olu of Iwa and Apapa Kingdom, extended a warm invitation to all stakeholders passionate about football to join hands in advancing the goals of the initiative. He emphasized the importance of collective effort in realizing the shared vision of promoting sports and fostering prosperity in the community.


The partnership between SWAN Lagos and WCFL marks a significant milestone in harnessing the power of sports for positive societal impact and community development. It serves as a testament to the transformative potential of collaborative initiatives in driving meaningful change.
