In response to the increased Hajj fare for the 2024 pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia announced by the National Hajj Commission, Bauchi Governor, Bala Mohammed, has taken a significant step to alleviate the financial burden on pilgrims from the state. The fare hike amounted to an additional N1,918,032.91 per pilgrim.
Concerned about the implications of this development, the Bauchi state government has approved a substantial 50% subsidy to assist intending pilgrims. This subsidy amounts to N959,000 for each of the 1,652 pilgrims from the state, totaling N2.5 billion.
Mukhtar Gidado, the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Governor, made this announcement in a statement on Friday, highlighting the governor's commitment to facilitating religious obligations and enhancing the welfare of citizens.
The statement elaborated on the decision, explaining that Governor Bala Mohammed approved the subsidy following the adjustment of the 2024 Hajj fare by NAHCOM. Under this subsidy, each intending pilgrim will receive N959,025, covering 50% of the additional fare.
To fund this initiative, the governor has authorized the release of N2,196,110, emphasizing the government's dedication to ensuring that Muslim faithful in Bauchi State can fulfill their sacred duty of performing the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
The subsidy aims to ease the financial burden on intending pilgrims, thereby promoting inclusivity and equal access to religious opportunities. This initiative aligns with the government's broader efforts to foster inclusive governance and ensure equitable distribution of resources and opportunities among citizens.
By subsidizing the Hajj fare, the Bauchi state government demonstrates its commitment to upholding religious obligations and promoting the welfare of its citizens, reflecting a proactive approach to governance and community development.
