Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued nine kidnapped victims during a late-night clearance operation at Essalu community in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The daring operation, which took place on Monday night, was led by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Ibadan, Maj.-Gen. Chinedu Nnebeife.
According to military reports, the victims — four men and five women — were abducted from Matoku community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State on September 24, 2025. Those rescued include Abdullahi Umar (35), Alhaji Umaru Sarki Fawa (55), Labaran Abubakar (45), Umar Yanda (30), Hassana Muhammad (25), Maryam Muhammad (27), Aisha Idris (20), and Zainab Ahmed (12).
Over the weekend, Maj.-Gen. Nnebeife had also led troops in a separate operation that freed two kidnap victims near Babasango Forest. The victims were later handed over to Oba Pius Oluwole, the Oni Dofin of Idofin, Odoeshe Ayekale, in Omu-Aran, Kwara State.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Lt.-Col. Polycarp Okoye, spokesperson for 2 Division, said the rescued victims narrated that they were seized when terrorists raided their village, abducting residents and rustling several cattle.
He added that the victims were given first aid and food before being formally handed over to the Patigi Local Government Authority for reunification with their families.
Maj.-Gen. Nnebeife also visited Lata community in Patigi, where he praised troops of 12 and 22 Brigades for their coordination and professionalism. He urged residents to continue providing reliable intelligence to aid ongoing efforts against banditry and kidnapping across the region.
