BREAKING: Supporters Storm Port Harcourt Airport to Welcome Reinstated Governor Fubara

A large crowd of supporters on Friday converged on the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Rivers State, to receive reinstated Governor Siminalayi Fubara as he makes his long-awaited return to office.

Among those at the airport were members of Fubara’s disbanded political support group, the Simplified Movement, including the sacked Mayor of Port Harcourt City, Ichemati Ezebunwo, popularly known as Sugar Mayor. Also present were women from the Women Unite for SIM, a prayer and solidarity group, who gathered in the airport car park ahead of the governor’s expected arrival.

The show of support follows heightened anticipation surrounding the governor’s reinstatement after six months of political turbulence in Rivers State. On Thursday, hundreds of loyalists had assembled at the gate of the Government House in Port Harcourt but dispersed after Fubara did not make an appearance.

Friday’s gathering underscores the governor’s enduring grassroots support despite the prolonged crisis that led to the temporary suspension of his administration. His return is expected to set the stage for renewed political activity in the oil-rich state, where tensions between rival factions have defined the political landscape in recent months.

Security presence at the airport has been visibly increased, though no incidents have been reported as of press time.

Governor Fubara’s reinstatement is viewed by observers as a critical moment for stability in Rivers State, as residents and political stakeholders await his next steps in consolidating power and managing relations with influential figures in the state.
