The Nigerian Army has successfully conducted a clearance operation in the Kanji Forest area, spanning Kiama, Baruten, and Borgu Local Government Areas of Kwara State, leading to the arrest of over 10 individuals suspected to be bandits and their accomplices.
The operation, which was part of a broader security effort to restore peace in the region, was carried out by military personnel who combed the forest following intelligence reports of criminal activity in the area.
Speaking during a press briefing, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army, Major General Obinna Godwin Onubogu, confirmed the arrests and reiterated the Army’s commitment to eradicating criminal elements from the state.
According to Maj. Gen. Onubogu, the forest raid was aimed at dislodging bandits who had been terrorizing communities in Kwara State. “Our mission in Kainji Forest has been successful. We have dismantled the criminal elements threatening the peace of the region,” he said.
He further assured residents of Kwara State that calm has been restored and that the military will continue to maintain security and monitor the area to prevent any resurgence of criminal activity.
“The people of Kwara can now go about their daily lives without fear. We remain committed to safeguarding lives and property across the state,” he added.
The military has urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security agencies promptly.
