Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have killed over 40 people in multiple attacks across Borno State, Nigeria, within a 24-hour period. The attacks, which occurred in different locations between Kalabalge and Damboa Local Government Areas, also resulted in the destruction of houses and a church.
On Monday, around 12 pm, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram terrorists detonated under an Isuzu pickup van traveling along the Kala-Balge road to Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area. According to the Borno State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, 26 people were killed in the explosion, including 16 males, four females, and six children. The injured victims are still receiving treatment in the hospital.
In a separate incident, around 7 pm on the same day, the terrorists stormed a funeral gathering, shooting sporadically and reportedly killing about 15 mourners.
The attacks occurred despite the Nigerian Army's commitment to enhancing the capacity of its troops to neutralize ongoing threats to national security, as reaffirmed by Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede.
