Gunmen Ambush Nigerian Army Convoy in Sokoto, Four Soldiers Killed

SOKOTO – Gunmen, suspected to be bandits, ambushed a convoy of Nigerian Army troops in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of four soldiers. The attack also left seven soldiers injured, with their vehicle set ablaze by the assailants.

Umar Balle, the sole administrator of Gudu LGA, who narrowly escaped the ambush, confirmed the incident during a telephone conversation. He reported that the injured soldiers were initially treated at Gudu General Hospital before being transferred to Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital in Sokoto for further care.

Yahya Gudu, a member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly representing Gudu, also confirmed the attack, stating that the gunmen ambushed the soldiers along the Kukurau-Bangi road. In addition to the four soldiers killed, two others were injured, and the bandits burned two of the patrol vehicles.

In response to the incident, additional security forces have been deployed to the area to bolster security.

Efforts to obtain a statement from the Sokoto State government were unsuccessful, as the special adviser on security matters to the governor, Col. Ahmed Usman (rtd.), was unavailable for comment at the time of reporting.
