Army Arrests 40-Year-Old Man for Smuggling Yobe Govt Seed Planters

Troops from the Forward Operations Base in Potiskum, Yobe State, have arrested a 40-year-old man, Mallam Auwal Sule, for allegedly attempting to smuggle farm machinery out of the state. The machinery, including 11 seed planters, was part of the Yobe State Government's recent agricultural empowerment program.

According to Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalm (retd.), Special Adviser to the Yobe State Governor on Security Matters, the suspect claimed to have purchased the seed planters from beneficiaries of the program at his shop in Babban Kasuwa, Potiskum, for N40,000 each. Sule was attempting to transport the items to Kano State when he was apprehended.

The Yobe government launched the Mega Agricultural Empowerment program in July 2024, aimed at supporting over 5,300 farmers across the state. Governor Mai Mala Buni has warned against any sabotage of the state's agricultural initiatives and directed security agencies to crack down on those attempting to move farm equipment out of Yobe. The suspect has been handed over to the NSCDC for further investigation.
