Police Faults Arrest, Dehumanisation of Corps Member

The Nigerian Police has invalidated a viral video depicting the arrest, detention, and dehumanization of a corps member in the Kaura Namoda area of Zamfara State. The Force Spokesperson, ACP Olamuyiwa Adejobi, clarified that the picture circulating alongside the news on social media has no connection to the actual individuals or events involved in the referred case. He emphasized that the incident in question occurred in 2015 and has been misrepresented.

Adejobi cautioned against the dissemination of falsehood aimed at discrediting the government and Nigerian institutions, emphasizing the unpatriotic and criminal nature of such acts. He urged the public and policing stakeholders to disregard the misinformation, highlighting the lack of real connection to the actual event.

In a separate development, the Nigerian Police Force was conferred with the award of service compliant with the NIPR Act by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. The award recognized the Force as the foremost agency in strict compliance with the NIPR Act, particularly in the appointment of public relations officers and the training of public relations personnel.

These developments underscore the importance of accurate information and the need to uphold ethical standards in public communication. The clarification provided by the Nigerian Police serves as a reminder of the critical role of responsible and accurate reporting in shaping public perceptions and maintaining trust in institutions.

The international community continues to monitor developments in Nigeria, with a focus on promoting transparency, accountability, and adherence to ethical standards in public communication and law enforcement.
