Police Commissioner Faces Jail Time for Alleged Contempt

The Enugu State High Court has issued a stern warning to the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu, threatening him with jail time for alleged contempt of court. This development comes after a Form Order 48, dated May 23, 2024, was filed by Mrs. Theresa Nnulika Chuba through her
attorney, Mr. Oboli Fred Esq.

The contempt proceeding is a result of an alleged disobedience to an order of court in respect to suit No. E/879/2022 and E/301/2024. The case in dispute involves a land matter, where the court gave judgment in favor of the plaintiff. However, some individuals allegedly engaged the police to stop the execution of the court's ruling, leading to the contempt proceeding.

The court's order is clear: the police commissioner must obey the directive of the court in respect to the orders contained in the aforementioned suits. Failure to do so will result in him being guilty of contempt of court, which may lead to jail time. This development highlights the importance of obeying court orders and the consequences of disobeying them.

The Enugu State Commissioner of Police is expected to take immediate action to comply with the court's order. The police commissioner's office is responsible for maintaining law and order in the state, and it is essential that they respect the rule of law and court judgments.

The plaintiff, Mrs. Theresa Nnulika Chuba, has been fighting for her rights in this land matter for a long time. The court's judgment in her favor is a victory for her, and she expects the police to enforce the court's ruling. Any further delay or obstruction from the police may be seen as a disregard for the rule of law and the judiciary.

The Enugu State High Court has demonstrated its commitment to upholding justice and the rule of law. The court's decision to initiate contempt proceedings against the police commissioner is a clear message that no one is above the law.
