Kwara State Witnesses Historic Drug Bust as NDLEA Arrests 31 Suspects, Recovers 270kg of Illicit Substances on a groundbreaking operation, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made a significant dent in the drug trafficking landscape of Kwara State, arresting 31 suspects and recovering a staggering 270 kilograms of various illicit substances. This monumental achievement marks a major victory in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in the state.
The operation, code-named "Operation Gbalumo/Operation Tap Root," was a collaborative effort between the NDLEA and the Kwara State Government, aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks and reducing drug demand and supply to the barest minimum. The three-day operation saw operatives of the NDLEA combing various parts of the state, targeting known drug hotspots and dealers.
According to the State Commander of the NDLEA, Mohammed Ibrahim, the operation was a response to the growing menace of drug abuse and trafficking in the state. "We have been monitoring the activities of drug dealers in the state for some time now, and we decided to take action to disrupt their networks and bring them to justice," he said.
The suspects, who include both males and females, were arrested in various locations across the state, including Ilorin, Offa, and Omu-Aran. They were found with various quantities of drugs, including cannabis, cocaine, and heroin. The recovered drugs have a street value of millions of naira, and their seizure is expected to significantly impact the drug trade in the state.
The NDLEA Commander expressed appreciation for the support of the Kwara State Government in the operation, particularly the provision of logistics and intelligence. He also commended the operatives of the agency for their professionalism and bravery during the operation.
In his remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Muyideen Aliyu, praised the NDLEA for their efforts in combating drug trafficking in the state. "We are committed to supporting the NDLEA and other security agencies in their efforts to make Kwara State a safe and secure place for all citizens," he said.
The Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Drug Abuse and Prevention, Aileru Olamilekan, also lauded the NDLEA for their achievement, noting that the state government has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to reducing drug supply and promoting a safe environment.
The suspects are currently being interrogated and will be charged to court soon. The NDLEA has promised to continue its follow-up operations to prevent drug traffickers from regrouping in other parts of the state.
This historic drug bust is a testament to the determination and resilience of the NDLEA and the Kwara State Government in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse. It sends a strong message to drug dealers and traffickers that Kwara State is no longer a safe haven for their illegal activities.
