Kogi: Abducted Student Killed during negotiation

The Kogi State Government has expressed deep sadness and condemnation over the killing of two abducted students of the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara. The students were kidnapped two weeks ago while preparing for their first-semester examination.

According to the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, the state government was deeply committed to rescuing all the abducted students and had spared no effort in doing so. Unfortunately, despite the efforts, the kidnappers killed two of the students while negotiations for their release were ongoing.

Fanwo disclosed that 21 other students were rescued alive and reunited with their families. He praised the efforts of the security operatives, local hunters, and conventional security forces who worked tirelessly to rescue the students.

The commissioner described the killing of the students as an attack on the state and vowed that the perpetrators would not go unpunished. He revealed that the students were killed at the kidnappers' hideout in Kwara State and assured that the state government was working with security agencies to ensure the remaining captives are released.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has opened dialogue with neighboring states to make the hideouts of the criminals uncomfortable for them. The governors of Kwara and Ekiti States have expressed their cooperation and readiness to rid the evil forest of criminals.

The state government sympathized with the families of the victims, the CUSTECH community, and the communities of the affected students. Fanwo said the government would support the families in every way possible during this difficult time.

The commissioner described the attack as cowardly, saying only cowards attack those seeking knowledge in
schools. He assured that the state government would do everything possible to prevent future occurrences and strengthen strategies to ward off evil from the state.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for increased security measures to protect schools and students.
