The Kano State Government has made a passionate appeal to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing Emirates crisis by moving the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, out of the state. The government claims that Bayero's continued stay in Kano constitutes a threat to the peace and stability of the state.
According to the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, the state government was not served with a court order restraining or ordering the maintenance of status quo in the Emirates crisis. He explained that out of eight respondents, only one, the Inspector General of Police, was served with the court order, while the state government and other respondents were not served.
Abdussalam accused some individuals in the All Progressives Congress (APC) of sponsoring protests against the reinstatement of Emir Sanusi, who was recently reinstalled as the 16th Emir of Kano. He alleged that these individuals were behind the sporadic protests that rocked the state, causing tension and chaos.
The Deputy Governor also tendered an apology to the Office of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, over allegations that he provided an aircraft to transport Bayero to Kano. He clarified that the state government was not involved in the transportation of the deposed Emir.
Abdussalam expressed concern over the sudden interest in the Emirates crisis, wondering whose interest was being served by the court order. He questioned why the order was special, such that out of eight respondents, seven were not served, and why there was a marching order from the top to ensure its implementation.
The Deputy Governor appealed to President Tinubu, the Office of the National Security Adviser, and other concerned agencies to investigate the happenings in Kano and take immediate steps to evacuate Bayero from his current residence and remove him from the state. He emphasized that Bayero's continued stay in Kano was constituting a security threat.
In a related development, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Kingsley Moghalu, has described the removal of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II in 2020 as an extreme measure. Moghalu stated that the reinstatement of Emir Sanusi was a righting of a wrong.
The Emirates crisis in Kano has been a subject of controversy, with many calling for a peaceful resolution. The state government's appeal to President Tinubu is seen as a move to resolve the crisis and maintain peace in the state.
