A fire broke out at the Tejuosho Market in the Yaba area of Lagos State on Wednesday, destroying several wooden shanties and properties worth millions of naira. Fortunately,
at the time of filing this report, there was no loss of life recorded and no injury sustained.
The fire, according to reports, broke out at the market located along Tejuosho Canal, comprising shops and residences, at about 12:30 pm.
The cause of the fire was a gas cooker that had been left unattended in one of the rooms. The fire quickly spread through the market, destroying several wooden blocks along the canal.
Emergency responders were present to battle the inferno, and
prompt response prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the market.
The incident has raised concerns about fire safety and prevention measures in markets across Lagos. The Lagos State Government has been urged to take measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
The Tejuosho Market is one of the largest markets in Lagos, with thousands of traders and shoppers visiting the market daily. The market is known for its wooden shanties, which are highly susceptible to fire outbreaks.
The incident has caused significant economic loss to the traders and shop owners, who have lost their properties and goods to the fire.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has been working to clear the rubble and prevent further damage to the market.
The incident is a reminder of the need for fire safety and prevention measures in markets and other public places. The government and market authorities must take measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
