The Kwara State Government has denied any involvement in the ongoing corruption trial of former Governor Abdulfatahi Ahmed. According to a statement by the state Commissioner for Communications, Bola Olukoju, the government refuted claims linking it to the case.
Former Governor Ahmed faces a 12-count charge related to the alleged mismanagement of public funds amounting to N10 billion, as brought forth by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on February 24.
The state government emphasized that governance responsibilities do not permit distractions or targeting of individuals, including former public officials. It clarified that the trial of the former governor falls under the exclusive prerogative of anti-graft agencies following their investigations.
Accusations from opposition parties were labeled as baseless, with the government urging that innocence or guilt be determined in a court of law, not through media speculation.
