Troops of the Nigerian Army conducted successful operations in Zamfara and Katsina states, resulting in the elimination of 11 terrorists in separate raids.
In Zamfara State, the troops targeted the hideout of notorious terrorist leader Hassan Yantagwaye in Tsafe Local Government Area. Yantagwaye and his group had been responsible for kidnappings and acts of terrorism in various parts of North West Nigeria. The raid on March 29, 2024, led to a fierce gun battle between the troops and the terrorists. Ultimately, three terrorists were neutralized during the operation, and a significant cache of arms and ammunition was recovered. Additionally, the troops destroyed the terrorists' camps in the area.
Similarly, in Katsina State, troops engaged terrorists in multiple locations within Faskari Local Government Area. The intense gun battle, which took place on March 30, 2024, resulted in the death of eight terrorists. The troops recovered three locally fabricated guns, military uniforms, and a substantial amount of stolen grains from the terrorists' possession.
In Ebonyi State, troops conducting night patrols on March 31, 2024, encountered armed Effium militias along Urban Effium in Ohaukwu Local Government Area. Following a combat engagement, the troops successfully captured one of the militias and recovered an AK-47 rifle along with 11 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. The captured suspect is currently undergoing preliminary investigation.
Additionally, troops intercepted illicit substances in Ogun State on March 29, 2024. A total of 441 wraps of suspected Cannabis Sativa were seized at Molegede village in Odeda Local Government Area. The substances were found concealed in a Mazda Saloon car, which was abandoned by the smugglers upon sighting the troops.
These operations underscore the Nigerian Army's unwavering commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of the nation.
