Checkmate: Tunde Onakoya and Shawn Martinez Dominate in 60-Hour World Chess Marathon

Nigerian chess master, Tunde Onakoya, has expressed gratitude to his United States counterpart, Shawn Martinez, following the successful completion of their 60-hour chess marathon, breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest game.

Onakoya, alongside Martinez, both National Masters in chess, played against each other throughout the challenge, marking a historic achievement in collaboration.

In a heartfelt post on his social media platform, Onakoya hailed Martinez's pivotal role in their triumph, emphasizing their solidarity during the grueling 60-hour match.

He wrote, "Dear Shawn, there's no world record without you. Together, for 60 hours, we showed the world what true collaboration means, trumping competition. We picked each other up during tough moments, both mentally and physically. And you did it with so much grace."

Expressing his appreciation, Onakoya referred to Martinez as "brother" and congratulated him on their shared accomplishment.

The duo surpassed the previous record set by Norwegian players in 2018, highlighting their dedication and resilience in achieving their goal.

Onakoya also reiterated that the purpose of their endeavor was to raise funds and awareness for providing educational opportunities to underprivileged children across Africa.
