"NSCDC Busts Massive Illegal Crude Oil Reservoir in Rivers State Raid"

Illegal Crude Oil Reservoir

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has made a significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities in the oil-rich Niger Delta region. In a targeted operation led by the NSCDC's Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, a massive crude oil reservoir was uncovered in Odagwa Community, situated within the Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.

According to Superintendent Olufemi Ayodele, the spokesperson for the NSCDC Rivers State Command, the operation was conducted based on credible intelligence obtained by the agency. Acting swiftly on this information, the Special Intelligence Squad raided an oil bunkering site in Odagwa Etche, near the city of Port Harcourt.

During the raid, the NSCDC discovered over 10 illegal refineries operating clandestinely in the area. These refineries were found to contain an estimated 500,000 liters of crude oil stored in approximately 50 illegally constructed reservoirs. The scale of the operation and the volume of crude oil seized underscore the magnitude of the illegal activities taking place in the region.

The NSCDC operation also resulted in the apprehension of several suspects directly involved in the illegal refining of crude oil. Additionally, a significant amount of equipment and materials used in the illicit activities were confiscated by the authorities. These included cooking pots, pumping machines, rubber hoses, galvanized pipes, and other paraphernalia associated with the illegal refining process.

The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has reiterated the agency's unwavering commitment to combatting all forms of economic sabotage, including crude oil theft and illegal refining, across the country. Dr. Audi emphasized that perpetrators of such crimes would face the full force of the law, regardless of their connections or affiliations.

This latest discovery highlights the persistent challenges posed by illegal activities in the Niger Delta region, including crude oil theft and illegal refining. It underscores the need for continued vigilance and concerted efforts by law enforcement agencies to safeguard Nigeria's natural resources and protect the interests of the nation.
