"Nation Mourns: Nigerian Army to Lay Rest to Heroes Slain in Okuama Tragedy with Solemn Abuja Burial"

Nigerian Army has Finalizes Arrangements for Burial of Soldiers Slain in Okuama Massacre

The Nigerian Army has completed all preparations to accord a dignified burial to its personnel who lost their lives in the tragic events at Okuama Community, Delta State. These fallen heroes, numbering 17, were members of the 181 Amphibious Battalion and are slated to be laid to rest in Abuja at the National Cemetery.

The soldiers met their demise while on a peacekeeping mission to Delta State, responding to a distress call emanating from the volatile situation between the Okuoma and Okoloba communities in the South-South State. The unfortunate incident unfolded on March 14, 2024, prompting the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, to issue directives for an immediate investigation and the apprehension of those responsible for the heinous crime.

In light of these events, President Bola Tinubu is set to attend the burial ceremony as a Special Guest of Honour to honor the memory of the fallen soldiers. The Army's spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu, announced the burial arrangements, emphasizing the presence of troops from various operations, who remain steadfast in their constitutional duties.

The burial ceremony is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 3:00 PM local time at the National Cemetery in Abuja. The Nigerian Army reaffirms its commitment to upholding peace and security across the nation despite the tragic loss of its gallant personnel.
